JULY AND AUGUST 2008

TECHNIQUE CLASSES

A deposit equal to one half of the class fee is due at the time of signup. Phone and Internet signups must pay the deposit within 7 days, or they will be removed from the class roster. The fee does not include the materials needed to complete class projects.

Note: Minimum attendance: four participants, or classes will be canceled and fees will be refunded.

Classes will start on time - be sure to purchase materials in advance.

Look for samples of the projects in the store. A materials list will be available for the projects. NOTE: The materials cost is a guideline; the actual cost of materials will depend upon what is chosen for beads and findings.

STUDENTS will receive 10% off materials bought for a class.

JULY

WEEK 1: JULY 6-12:

BEADING FUNDAMENTALS. Learn the simple but necessary steps to stringing beads professionally. You’ll learn about stringing materials, tools, findings, beads and how to get started in the wonderful world of beading. You will make a bead-strung necklace. Fee is $30. No pre-requisite. The class will be held from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, July 10. Materials fee: $10-15.

LEATHER SPIRAL NECKLACE. This pretty necklace features beads twisted around a leather cord base. You’ll learn about leather cording ends, how to attach them, and the technique used to attach beads to the cording. The class will take place 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 12. No pre-requisite. Fee is $30. Materials fee: $15-$25.

WEEK 2: JULY 13-19:

WIRE BASICS. Learn the basic techniques of twisting, shaping and wrapping wire. You’ll get to experiment with wire-working tools and learn the loop, a simple wire wrap and the basis of earring construction. No pre-requisite. Fee is $30. The class will take place 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, July 17. Materials fee: $10-15.

RIGHT-ANGLE WEAVE BRACELET. In this class, you’ll make a pretty bracelet using circular right-angle weave. It’s easy to make, works up quickly and can span the seasons. No pre-requisite. Fee is $30. The class will be held from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 19. Materials fee: $8-15. Note: .A more complex RAW bracelet class is being held Aug. 16; details are below.

WEEK 3: JULY 20-26

PEARL KNOTTING. Learn the basic European skill of knotting pearls and beads on silk cord. Once you know this time-honored technique, you’ll be able to repair vintage pieces. No pre-requisite. Fee is $30. The class will be held from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 22. Materials fee: $10-$20.

WORKING THE WIG-JIG (Part 1). If you want to learn how to create your own ear wires, clasps and connectors, then this is the class to take! You’ll learn to use a Wig-Jig to create two different earring wires, a figure-8 link, 4-leaf clover link, and a hook-and-eye clasp! No pre-requisite. Fee is $30. The class will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, July 26. Materials fee: $35-$45. (Must have a Delphi Wig-Jig and an assortment of small round super-pegs.)

WEEK 4: JULY 27-AUG. 2:

CRYSTAL FILIGREE BRACELET. In this class you’ll make a two-strand bracelet using a Swarovski filigree centerpiece. The bracelet is finished with spacers, Austrian crystals and a clasp. Fee is $30. No pre-requisite. The class will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday July 29. Materials fee: $15-25.

MULTI-STRAND NECKLACE. In this class you’ll learn about multi-strand clasps, how to use bead tips or cones and how to vary the lengths of the strands. No pre-requisite. Fee is $30. The class will take place 6:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday, August 2. Materials fee: $15-$40.

AUGUST

WEEK 1: AUGUST 3-9:

SPIRAL-LINK NECKLACE. In this class you’ll create an eye-catching necklace while learning how to make spiraled connector links. No pre-requisite. Fee is $30. The class will take place 2:30-5:00 p.m. Saturday, August 9. Materials fee: $15-$25.

WEEK 2: AUGUST 10-16:

CRYSTAL & PEARL BRACELET. Using Swarovski crystals and freshwater pearls, you’ll learn one of the basic (and easy!) bead-weaving stitches: RAW, known as right-angle weave. No pre-requisite. Fee is $30. The class will be held 2:00 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, August 16. Materials fee: $20-$40 (depending on crystals).

WEEK 3: AUGUST 17- 23:

EUROPEAN 4-1 BRACELET. Once you learn this great chainmaille weave, you’ll be able to create a flexible tube that can be used to make a bracelet, necklace, strap or more. Fee is $30.The class will take place from 1:30-4:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 19. No Pre-requisite. Materials fee: $15-$35.

LONG TASSEL NECKLACE. Long necklaces are “in” right now – and what better way to be in style than with this one, highlighted with a decorative beaded tassel. Some wire-working experience preferred. Fee is $30. The class will be held from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, August 23. Materials fee $15-$25.

WEEK 4: AUGUST 24- 30:

DOUBLE SPIRAL STITCH.. This version of the spiral stitch is a favorite here at the Bead Emporium! It is fun, it’s easy and this beaded spiral can be used for bracelets, necklaces and straps. Fee is $30. The class will take place 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, August 28. No pre-requisite. Materials fee: $10-$20.

VICTORIAN NECKLACE. Using crystals (Swarovski or firepolish) and wire, you’ll create a delicate and elegant necklace. If you need practice making wire wraps, you’ll get it, along with handy tips, in this class! No pre-requisite. Fee is $30. The class will take place 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, August 30. Materials fee: $10-$35 (depending on crystals used).

CLASSES WILL RESUME LATE SEPTEMBER

***NOTICE--Class Deposit/Refund Policy--Effective July 1, 2004***

If a student needs to cancel out of a class, they must do so 48 hours before the class begins. Cancellations made 48 hours before the class meets will qualify for a store credit coupon in the amount paid toward the class. Cancellations less than 48 hours before the class and “no shows” will forfeit the deposit and it will be paid to the class instructor.

If a class is cancelled by the Bead Emporium, a refund will be issued.

Store credit coupons become the responsibility of the student and will expire one year after the issue date. The coupon must be presented at the time the student wishes to use it. Bead Emporium will not maintain records on who has or has not used their store credit coupon.
